Land of Song A D&D Campaign

The Original Telling

The founding account of the Land of Song — a very high level view, in the world-maker’s own words, recorded verbatim. The chronicles of creation, the present age, and the Reavers derive from it.

Anciently in the Land of Song there lived two peoples. Elve-like creatures and Human-like creatures. They lived and explored the LoS. One day one of the princes of the human-like Aesir discovered a tree whose fruit granted a sort of immortality. He gained great magical strength and could not die of old age or of sickness. He could be killed, though he healed faster from injury. The rest of the royal family all ate from the tree. Then the rest of the aesir. The royal family and certain others had powers that rivaled gods, and became known as the Great Aesir.

Eventually the elf-like Vaenir also discovered the tree. They too ate of the fruit. They took became god-like and there were Great Vaenir and Vaenir.

The Aesir created life: nymphs, dwarves, humans, giants, lobine (think like werewolves but always in wolf form),

The Vaenir created life: dragons, vested races (they put on a magical item of clothing and their shape changes. selkie, merfolk, naga, celeste (elves with feathered wings), etc), elves, shapeshifting Trow.

The Aesir created forms and creature of order and peace. The Vaenir created creatures of chaos and passion.

Special Aesir learned how to create rainbow bridges to travel to other worlds.

Soon there was a Great War between the Aesir and Vaenir. The world nearly shattered. The Tree was destroyed. Millions of mortals died and thousands of Aesir and Vaenir were killed. In the end the the Aesir banished the Great Vaenir from the Land of Song, along with many Vaenir. Then they sealed the rainbow bridges. Somehow the Great Aesir became lost or forgotten or perhaps they died in sealing the rainbow bridges.

The Reavers arose. Mortals of great power and skill, fed up with the destruction of tyrannical god-like beings. The Reavers hunted every immortal, slaughtering them. They vowed that never again would they bend to an aesir or vaenir, they would protect the world. The Great War ended a thousand years ago. The Aesir are all in hiding, living among mortals. Many of the Vaenir do the same, except for the dragons and the Trow (their shapeshifters based on Norse mythology that are very beautiful. They hide their true face from all but their spouse.)

The Aesir want to keep order and keep the Vaenir locked up. They want peace. The Vaenir want to free the Great Vaenir and shape the world with their chaotic passion. The Reavers want to protecct all mortal kind from the danger of the the Aesir and Vaenir. They will protect the world and the freedom of mortals.
