The Present Age

The Great War ended roughly a thousand years ago, and the Land of Song has lived since in a wary balance among three powers. The god-like Creators no longer rule openly: the surviving Aesir live in hiding among mortals, and many of the Vaenir do the same. The dragons are a notable exception, as are the trow — though the trow conceal their true faces rather than themselves.

Three wills now pull against one another.

The Aesir

The Aesir want order and peace. They mean to keep the Vaenir locked away and the Great Vaenir banished, and to hold the world to the settlement they won in the war.

The Vaenir

The Vaenir want to free the Great Vaenir from their banishment and to reshape the world with their chaotic passion, undoing the order the Aesir imposed.

The Reavers

The Reavers want neither master. They mean to protect mortalkind and the freedom of the world from both the Aesir and the Vaenir, and to see that no god-like power rules again.
