THE GREAT WAR

The Great War was the war between the two Creators, the Aesir and the Vaenir, and the creatures they made. It ended roughly a thousand years ago.

The war nearly shattered the world and destroyed the Tree from which the Creators had gained their power. It killed millions of mortals and thousands of the Aesir and Vaenir. The Aesir emerged victorious: the Great Vaenir and many Vaenir were banished from the Land of Song, and the rainbow bridges were sealed behind them. The Great Aesir were themselves lost, forgotten, or dead by the end — some said to have died in the sealing. What followed is recorded in the present age.

The Celeste in the war

The Celeste, though made by the Vaenir, fought on the side of the Aesir, and in the fighting killed many of their own Vaenir makers. For siding against their makers they have been hated as traitors ever since — most bitterly by the elves.

After the war

Peace did not heal the world. The Reavers arose to hunt every immortal; the surviving Aesir and Vaenir went into hiding among mortals; and the Schism at Saudient later drove a portion of the Celeste into exile in the gray peaks.
