Compass Rose Trading

Compass Rose Trading is a merchant and shipping company owned by Tanwen, newly arrived in Sunton. Its emblem is a red heraldic rose viewed directly from above, arranged with the symmetry of a compass and accented by green leaves; the company colors are red and green. Tanwen’s daughter Seraphine is her apprentice in the trade.

The Sunton branch

Tanwen recently purchased a large multistory commercial building in Sunton. Like the city’s older and wealthier structures, it builds upward within a defined lot: the public shop, receiving rooms, warehouse, offices, employee rooms, and family apartments are all housed in the same tall building.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on shelves, reinforced floors, cargo lifts, signs, offices, and apartments; the shop may already be partly open while construction continues, in an atmosphere of purposeful, cheerful disorder. The company is expecting one of its merchant ships to arrive with the first major cargo for the new branch — its formal entry into Sunton’s shipping trade.

Why Sunton

The company chose Sunton over Aberdeen because:

• Sunton’s tariffs and fees are lower than Aberdeen’s.
• The city is more welcoming to independent and foreign merchants.
• Compass Rose can operate without constant interference from Aberdeen’s magical clans.
• Southern caravans save roughly one full day of overland travel by using Sunton, and the shorter route lowers costs, reduces risk, and speeds the transfer of goods from wagon to ship.
